Singapore's Thong Yong Group, through its offshore subsidiary, has finalized an agreement with Jianglong Shipbuilding in China for the construction of two new offshore supply vessels (OSVs). The total value of this shipbuilding contract is reported to be around $18.4 million. The delivery schedule for these vessels is set for September and December of 2027.
These OSVs are designed to meet the stringent standards set by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), ensuring their operational safety and reliability in offshore environments. Each vessel will measure 57.5 meters in length and 13.8 meters in width.
For freight forwarders, this development primarily signifies ongoing investment in the global offshore support vessel fleet. While not directly impacting container or general cargo rates, a robust OSV market can indicate broader activity in the energy sector, which indirectly influences demand for project cargo and specialized logistics services. New vessel orders contribute to the long-term capacity of the offshore sector, potentially stabilizing or increasing availability for specialized project movements.
