Samskip has announced the integration of Halmstad, Sweden, into its established Blue service, which links Europe with Iceland. This strategic expansion, set to commence in September, will enhance the service's reach within the Scandinavian region. The route is maintained by two vessels, each with a capacity of 900 TEU.
This move is part of Samskip's ongoing efforts to optimize its service offerings and improve connectivity for its customers in Northern Europe. The Blue service has been a critical link for trade between the continent and Iceland, and the new port call is expected to strengthen this connection.
For freight forwarders and shippers, the inclusion of Halmstad provides additional options for cargo routing to and from Sweden, particularly for shipments destined for or originating from Iceland and other European hubs on the service loop. This could lead to improved transit times and potentially more flexible scheduling for cargo in the region, offering a direct call where previously transshipment might have been required. It also signifies increased capacity and network density in Scandinavia.
Following this adjustment, the updated service rotation will encompass Rotterdam, Cuxhaven, Gothenburg, Halmstad, Aarhus, and Runavik, among other locations.
