The Ocean Alliance, a major shipping consortium, has announced a significant adjustment to its PEX3 service, which connects the Far East with the US East Coast. Effective late June, the Port of Miami (USMIA) will be incorporated into the service rotation. This strategic change will see Miami replace the Port of New Orleans (USNWS) as a scheduled stop.
The PEX3 service is a collaborative effort among Ocean Alliance partners, including CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines, OOCL, and Evergreen Marine. Notably, all vessels deployed on this particular loop are operated by CMA CGM.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this modification presents new routing opportunities and potential impacts on transit times. The inclusion of Miami could offer improved access to markets in Florida and the southeastern United States, potentially reducing inland transportation costs and lead times for cargo destined for this region. Conversely, shippers utilizing New Orleans may need to adjust their logistics plans, exploring alternative services or transshipment options. Capacity and rates on the PEX3 service may see minor adjustments as the new rotation is implemented, particularly for cargo moving to or from Miami.
