Jumbo Maritime, a Netherlands-based company, has announced a new contract with Dajin Heavy Industry for the construction of two L-Class heavy lift transportation vessels. These new ships are designed to be methanol-ready, indicating a strategic move towards more sustainable fuel options in the future. The vessels, with a deadweight of 25,000 tonnes, will significantly enhance Jumbo's capabilities in heavy lift transport operations.
Each L-Class vessel will be equipped with two Huisman 1,200-tonne heavy lift cranes, providing a substantial combined lifting capacity of 2,400 tonnes. This in-house design by Jumbo aims to support a wide array of complex project cargo movements.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this fleet expansion signals increased capacity for oversized and heavy-lift project cargo, particularly for sectors requiring large components like offshore wind or industrial plant modules. The methanol-ready design also suggests a long-term commitment to reducing emissions, which could be a factor for shippers prioritizing greener supply chains. The enhanced lifting capacity will allow for more efficient handling of extremely heavy and large components, potentially streamlining project logistics and offering more flexible routing options for specialized shipments.
