Construction has officially started on a new liquefied biogas (LBG) production facility located within the Port of Gothenburg. This project, spearheaded by Nordion Energi, aims to significantly enhance the availability of sustainable marine fuels. The facility is projected to finalize construction in early 2027 and commence full operations before the end of that year.
The plant is designed to produce approximately 50 tonnes of LBG per day. This initiative aligns with broader industry efforts to reduce carbon emissions from shipping by offering a viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels. For freight forwarders and logistics operations, the availability of LBG at a major European port like Gothenburg could facilitate the use of lower-emission vessels, potentially impacting routing decisions and offering more sustainable shipping options to clients. It also signals a growing trend towards green fuel infrastructure at key maritime hubs.
This development is a step towards providing cleaner energy solutions for the maritime sector, contributing to environmental goals and offering a more sustainable future for shipping logistics.
