Astral Aviation recently completed the delivery of 100 metric tons of humanitarian relief supplies to Bunia in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The cargo was initially flown from Europe to Liège, Belgium, on a Boeing 747 Freighter operated by Network Airline Services. From Liège, the shipment was then transported to Nairobi, Kenya, before being loaded onto an Astral Aviation Boeing 737-400 Freighter for the final segment to Bunia.
This operation highlights the critical role of multimodal airfreight in delivering urgent humanitarian aid to challenging regions. For freight forwarders and operations managers, this demonstrates the complexity and coordination required for such shipments, often involving multiple carriers and aircraft types to reach destinations with limited direct air access. The use of both wide-body (747) and narrow-body (737) freighters indicates a tailored approach to capacity and route optimization, ensuring efficient delivery to remote locations.
