Air China Cargo is set to inaugurate a new scheduled freighter service between Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK). This strategic move aims to bolster trade relations and air cargo capacity between China and the United Kingdom.
Prestwick Airport confirmed that Air China Cargo will redirect three of its four weekly services currently operating from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) to Shanghai Pudong for this new route. The carrier will maintain its existing 11 weekly scheduled flights to and from other destinations.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this new service signifies increased direct air cargo capacity from Shanghai to the UK, potentially offering more consistent transit times and improved scheduling options for shipments originating from or destined for Eastern China. The shift from Guangzhou might slightly reduce direct capacity from that region, but the overall network adjustment aims to optimize key trade lanes. This could lead to more competitive rates on the Shanghai-UK corridor due to enhanced service availability.
