Germany experienced a 5.7% month-on-month reduction in imports during July 2026, with the total value dropping to €119.6 billion. Specifically, imports from EU member states fell by 6.1%, primarily driven by a 6.5% decrease in purchases from eurozone countries and a 5.1% drop from non-eurozone EU nations. Imports from third countries also contracted by 5.3%.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, this import decline in Germany, a major European economy, could signal reduced demand for inbound cargo movements. This might lead to softer freight rates on key trade lanes into Germany and potentially increased vessel or truck capacity availability.
