The European Union is supporting a new project designed to establish legal avenues for professional truck drivers from Egypt and Morocco to enter the European road transport sector. This initiative will provide training to a total of 600 drivers. Following their training, 200 of these drivers will receive further assistance to secure employment as professional drivers in either Italy or Romania.
This program directly addresses the persistent driver shortage faced by many European countries. By facilitating the legal entry and integration of skilled drivers from outside the EU, the project aims to alleviate capacity constraints within the road freight sector.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, this development could lead to a gradual increase in available trucking capacity within Europe, particularly in countries like Italy and Romania.
