COSCO SHIPPING has recently deployed the GuoLiangHai, an 80,000 deadweight tonnage (dwt) multipurpose grain carrier, to operate on its trade route connecting South America and China. This new vessel is designed to provide enhanced cargo flexibility, catering to a diverse range of commodities.
The GuoLiangHai is equipped to transport not only agricultural products but also containers, components for wind energy projects, rolling stock, new energy vehicles, and substantial industrial machinery. This versatility aims to support two-way trade flows between these regions.
For freight forwarders and shippers, this development could lead to improved capacity and more flexible shipping solutions on the South America-China lane. The ability to handle various cargo types, including oversized and project cargo, alongside standard containers and bulk goods, offers greater options for complex logistics requirements. This may positively impact scheduling and routing for shipments requiring specialized handling, potentially reducing transit times or costs for specific cargo categories.
