Preliminary data released by ACT Research reveals that net trailer orders experienced a 9% decline in June, reaching approximately 13,500 units. This monthly total also marked a significant 35% reduction when compared to the order volumes recorded in May. The figures suggest that the trailer market is not currently following its usual seasonal trends.
For freight forwarders and logistics professionals, a sustained decrease in new trailer orders could signal future shifts in road freight capacity. Fewer new trailers entering the market might eventually lead to tighter capacity, particularly for specific types of cargo or lanes, which could in turn influence trucking rates and lead times. Forwarders should monitor these trends to anticipate potential impacts on their inland transportation planning and budgeting.
