ArcBest has announced a strategic reorganization involving its less-than-truckload (LTL) division, ABF Freight, and its other subsidiaries. The company plans to reduce its LTL terminal footprint in smaller geographical markets. This adjustment will affect a minor portion of the ABF Freight network, specifically about 1% of its more than 220 LTL facilities.
In addition to the LTL network adjustments, ArcBest is also proceeding with the merger of its truckload and logistics subsidiaries. This consolidation aims to create a more integrated service offering, potentially improving efficiency and simplifying operations across its diverse freight services.
For freight forwarders and operations managers, these changes could lead to shifts in available LTL service points in certain smaller markets, potentially requiring adjustments in routing or carrier selection for specific lanes. The integration of truckload and logistics services might offer more streamlined solutions for shippers seeking comprehensive transportation management, but it also means forwarders should monitor how these internal changes translate to external service levels and pricing.
