The German Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) conducted extensive transport controls throughout April, resulting in fines totaling over €162,000. These inspections, which took place on April 6, April 15-16, and April 29-30, were carried out at 95 different locations across Germany. The primary focus areas for enforcement included adherence to cabotage regulations, compliance with mandatory weekly rest periods for drivers, and technical inspections of commercial vehicles.
For freight forwarders and logistics operators, these consistent and widespread controls by German authorities underscore the critical importance of strict compliance with EU and national road transport regulations. Non-compliance, particularly regarding cabotage and driver working hours, can lead to significant financial penalties and operational disruptions. Forwarders should ensure their contracted carriers and internal fleets are fully aware of and adhere to these rules to avoid fines and potential delays in transit.
